Glovo, a leading technology platform in the on-demand delivery space, has signed a landmark Memorandum of Cooperation with Kenya’s Ministry of Labour and Social Protection. The partnership, officiated by Cabinet Secretary Dr. Alfred Mutua, signals a major public-private commitment to advancing Kenya’s digital economy and tackling youth unemployment through platform-based job creation.

Dr. Mutua praised Glovo’s role in fostering inclusive economic growth and responsible innovation, stating, “I commend Glovo for its responsible innovation and commitment to youth employment and inclusive growth. We look forward to continued engagement with Glovo and other stakeholders to co-create policies that safeguard workers while supporting innovation and enterprise.”

Oscar Pierre, Glovo’s co-founder and CEO, highlighted the alignment of this partnership with Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, noting the country’s vibrant digital energy and promise as a key market in Africa. “Kenya’s vibrant energy and dedication to digital transformation inspire us,” he said.

Key Highlights of the Agreement:

  • Investment: Glovo will invest an additional KSh 2 billion by 2027 to boost job creation and platform development.
  • Job Creation:
    • 1,200 new youth opportunities in the next two years.
    • 200 new direct jobs (90% for young Kenyans).
    • 2,400 new merchants onboarded, expected to create over 10,000 indirect jobs.
    • 1,200 additional rider jobs, 85% for youth.
  • Capacity Building:
    • Expansion of digital literacy and business skills for 1,200+ partners.
    • Strengthened commitment to rider welfare under the new Glovo+ programme, focusing on health, safety, and social protections.
  • Community Impact: Through its Glovo Access programme, the company pledges to deliver 3.4 million meals to vulnerable groups.

Long-Term Vision:

By 2030, Glovo envisions Kenya as its digital hub in Africa, with a cumulative investment of KSh 16 billion. This ecosystem will support 1,000 direct employees and generate over 20,000 indirect jobs across merchants and riders within the platform economy.

Pierre concluded, “Glovo is not just a partner in progress; we are an economic infrastructure ally committed to building a stronger future. We believe in Kenya’s potential as the ‘Silicon Savannah’ of Africa.”
