National Women’s Volleyball Defending Champions KCB have shifted their focus to the upcoming Kipchumba Karori Volleyball Tournament slated for December 12 – 15, 2024 at the Eldoret National Polytechnic.

The bankers saw mixed results in the concluded second leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation League. The team lost 3-2 to Kenya Pipeline last Friday before beating Post Bank 3-0 on Saturday. Yesterday, they were beaten 3-2 by Prisons Kenya.

“We are still gelling as a team with the new young players coming in to compete at this level. Even though we lost, I must say that I am happy with all of them for showing their skills and for their hard work. We are still the defending champions and I can assure you that we will bounce back in the subsequent legs of the league. We will reclaim our title at the end of the season,” said KCB Captain Edith Wisa.

The Japheth Munala-led team is still missing the services of setter Esther Mutinda who is sidelined for the rest of the season. Young players Deborah Jesang and Sheilah Wabwire are stepping up to fill the void.

“A lot of people are writing us off as early as now but I want to put our opponents on notice that we will be back stronger. As you saw, Juliana Namutira is showing why she was the MVP during the playoffs, Moim is still pushing hard and all of us are up to the task. We are ready to fight at the Kipchumba Karori tournament,” added Wisa.

Following the departures of Mariam Musa, Sharon Jepchumba and Elizabeth Lemosiany, KCB has struggled in the opening legs of the current league but Munala is adamant that his team will bag silverware at the end of the season. New additions are expected to join the squad soon.

The Kipchumba Karori International Volleyball Tournament will see teams from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and other countries compete in the tantalizing showdown in Uasin Gishu County.
