KCB Bank Kenya has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with public universities to support the financing of their transition to cleaner, more efficient and climate-resilient campuses, marking a new phase of collaboration to address the financial, infrastructure and sustainability challenges facing the higher education sector.

Through the partnership, KCB will support investments in areas including solar energy, energy efficiency, clean cooking technologies, waste management, biogas systems, solar water heating and rainwater harvesting. The interventions are expected to help institutions lower operating costs, improve resource efficiency and build greater resilience.

Speaking during the MoU signing ceremony, KCB Bank Kenya Managing Director, Mrs. Annastacia Kimtai commented that public universities continue to face pressure from constrained budgets, rising operational costs and significant infrastructure needs. Diversifying revenue streams and improving the efficiency with which institutions manage their finances will remain critical.

“Access to appropriate financing remains one of the barriers to the clean-energy transition for learning institutions, and KCB is prepared to use its financial expertise and partnerships to help address that gap. Universities that invest in renewable energy, energy efficiency and responsible water management can reduce long-term operating costs while demonstrating the kind of environmental leadership that our country needs as part of a broader partnership aimed at strengthening the financial and operational resilience of higher learning institutions,” She added.

Recently, KCB signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the State Department for Higher Education and Research to support the development of more sustainable and resilient universities across the country. The partnership focused on practical interventions that enable universities to reduce their environmental footprint, improve resource efficiency and lower operating costs, while creating healthier and more sustainable learning environments for students, staff and surrounding communities.
