List of prescription drugs abuse in Kenya and the affected counties

A recent study by Daily Nation, whose findings were corroborated by a study by @NACADAKenya, revealed that prescription drugs are the most widely abused. Further analysis showed that Diazepam is the most widely abused prescription drug, representing 35.2 per cent of the 68 samples, followed by Benzhexol – 22%.

  1. Diazepam – 35.2%
  2. Benzhexol – 22%
  3. Flunitrazepam – 14.7%
  4. Amitriptyline -7.3%
  5. Chlorpromazine – 4.4%
  6. Codeine – 4.4%
  7. Carbamazepine – 1.5%
  8. Tramadol – 1.5%
  9. Chlorpheniramine – 1.5%
  10. Benadryl – 1.5%
  11. Haloperidol – 1.5%
  12. Propofol – 1.5%
  13. Olanzapine – 1.5%

Twelve of the eighteen sampled counties had confirmed results of prescription drug abuse. The counties are: Nairobi Garissa Meru Marsabit Makueni Mombasa Kilifi Kwale Busia Kisumu Uasin Gishu Nyeri.
