NCBA Bank has strengthened its engagement with professional communities in Western Kenya through forums in Kisumu and Kakamega focused on wealth creation, investment, property ownership and long-term financial planning.
The engagements, dubbed the NCBA Wealth Masterclass, were held in Kisumu for members of the legal fraternity and in Kakamega for lawyers and doctors and provided an opportunity for professionals to discuss their evolving financial needs with NCBA specialists. The conversations explored how professionals can move beyond earning an income to building sustainable wealth, protecting their assets and planning for their families and future generations.
Professionals often balance demanding careers with business interests, family responsibilities and long-term financial commitments. As their priorities evolve, decisions around investing surplus income, generating additional income streams, acquiring property, expanding professional practices and protecting assets become increasingly important.
Commenting on the engagements, Dennis Njau, Group Director, Retail Banking at NCBA, said professional success should be supported by deliberate financial planning and access to the right expertise.
“Professional success should create more than income. It should create opportunity, security and a lasting legacy. Lawyers and doctors have diverse financial responsibilities, from growing their practices and investing in property to protecting their families and planning. Our role is to understand these ambitions and connect our customers to relevant financial solutions as their needs evolve,” said Njau.
The economic context in the region also underscores the importance of informed investment and financial planning. According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics’ 2024 County Statistical Abstract for Kakamega, the county’s Gross County Product stood at approximately KES 291.8 billion in 2023. Real estate activities contributed KES 18.8 billion, while construction accounted for KES 5.2 billion, reflecting the place of property and related activity in the county’s economy.
In Kisumu, a 2022 housing market report by the Kenya Mortgage Refinance Company estimated that 42.2 per cent of households were renting, implying a homeownership share of approximately 57.8 per cent. While this is a historical estimate, it highlights the continuing relevance of accessible financing and informed decisions around homeownership and property investment.
NCBA’s proposition for professionals brings together Retail Banking, Wealth Management, Investment Solutions, Property Finance and Bancassurance. Through this integrated approach, customers can explore solutions aligned with their individual circumstances and ambitions, whether they are looking to build an investment portfolio, acquire a home or commercial property, develop land, protect their assets or plan for the future.
Property-related offerings such as Property Duka and Easy Build, alongside investment and wealth advisory services, insurance and protection solutions, and Retail Solar Leasing, form part of the Bank’s wider proposition to support customers at different stages of their financial journey.
The engagements also provided an opportunity for NCBA to listen to professionals, better understand their priorities and strengthen relationships beyond day-to-day banking. By bringing together its specialist teams and broader financial capabilities, the Bank aims to help customers make more informed decisions about their personal finances, businesses and long-term goals.
“Through our purpose of Banking on Belief, Empowering Ambition, we are committed to evolving alongside our customers. We want professionals across Western Kenya to see NCBA as a partner they can turn to as their ambitions grow, helping them build, grow and protect what they have worked hard to achieve,” Njau added.
NCBA continues to focus on relationship-led banking and integrated financial solutions that support customers in translating their professional success into lasting financial wellbeing.
