Safaricom has unveiled two new propositions, Ofa Ya Boda Boda and Bundle Ya Deree, designed to empower boda boda riders and ride-hailing drivers with affordable connectivity, fuel discounts, insurance, and financial wellness support.

The packages combine discounted voice and data bundles with free access to essential navigation and ride-hailing apps, ensuring operators remain connected throughout their workday. To enhance safety and security, they also provide subsidised insurance covers for accidents, illness, and income loss, alongside training on financial literacy and road safety.

As part of its financial empowerment drive, Safaricom has introduced Safire Connect forums, where drivers and riders will learn entrepreneurship skills and gain digital and AI fluency. The telco has also committed to making affordable 4G-enabled devices accessible to operators, helping bridge the digital divide and unlock additional online income opportunities.

Drivers subscribed to Bundle Ya Deree will soon enjoy fuel discounts every Friday on Shell FuelSave Unleaded and V-Power at all Shell outlets nationwide, through a partnership with Vivo Energy Kenya.

“We understand the challenges faced by Kenyans in the transport sector, especially with the rising cost of operations. Through our partnership with Safaricom, we aim to ease this burden, with the fuel discounts to drivers being a significant boost for operators,” said Patrick Masinde, Retail Manager, Vivo Energy Kenya.

“Our purpose is to transform lives by empowering people to people, opportunity, and knowledge. With Ofa Ya Boda Boda and Bundle Ya Deree, we achieve the three in a single act, offer connectivity, safety, insurance, and financial empowerment to this vital sector,” added Fawzia Ali-Kimanthi, Chief Consumer Business Officer, Safaricom PLC.

According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) 2025 Economic Survey, the transport sector contributed 4.4 percent to GDP in 2024, supported by more than 1.4 million registered motorcycles and over one million direct jobs. Riders earn between KES 500 and KES 1,500 daily, generating an estimated KES 1 billion per day, making the sector vital to livelihoods and economic growth.

By tackling high operational costs, safety risks, and financial vulnerability, Safaricom’s new propositions aim to help transport operators work smarter, save more, and secure their future.

Boda boda riders can subscribe to Ofa Ya Boda Boda by dialling 5448#, while ride-hailing drivers can access Bundle Ya Deree by dialling 5446#.
