TikTok’s annual Discover List 2026 is officially out — and Sub-Saharan Africa is firmly in the spotlight.
Five creators from across the region have been named among 50 of the world’s most influential digital voices, recognised across five major categories: Icons, Innovators, Foodies, Educators and Originators. Their selection signals a powerful shift in the global creator economy — one where African talent is not just participating, but leading.
From breaking down medical myths in Lagos to redefining fusion cuisine in Nairobi and Cape Town, and building design and fashion brands in Johannesburg, these creators are turning passion into thriving businesses — and influence into lasting impact.
“At TikTok we are committed to celebrating our inspiring creator community. Today we are thrilled to unveil The Discover List 2026 — a highlight of 50 creators to watch from around the world,” said James Stafford, Global Head of Content Operations at TikTok. “We are proud to be a space where new talent can be discovered and authenticity and creativity can thrive.”
Africans Take New York
To celebrate the 2026 honorees, TikTok has partnered with Food Network to host Hot List x Discover List: The Future of Flavor, a live culinary showcase inside Food Network’s kitchen in New York City.
Streaming LIVE on @tiktok at 5:30 PM ET on Thursday, 26 February (1:30 AM EAT), Discover List alum Violet Witchel will cook alongside Food Network chef Esther Choi (@choibites) and honorees from this year’s list.
Among them are two Sub-Saharan African food creators:
- Trevor Were (@saute_with_trevor) – a self-taught chef from Nairobi, Kenya.
- Wayne Chang (@munchin_mash) – a Cape Town-based recipe developer known for blending Asian cuisine with South African ingredients.
Their presence at the event underscores the global appetite for African culinary voices.
“Being nominated for the Discover List as a Foodie means people can find more ways to scratch their foodie itch,” said Wayne Chang. “Getting the opportunity to be surrounded by foodies who want to share their craft — that’s what it’s all about.”
Trevor Were added: “I never imagined that something that started on my kitchen counter could grow into such incredible opportunities. Stay consistent — what feels impossible today can become your moment tomorrow.”

A Bigger Moment for Africa
The Discover List 2026 was selected through a global nomination process, with TikTok teams identifying creators who made significant impact over the past six months — based on growth, engagement, views and content that sparked global conversations.
Sub-Saharan African creators were first featured on the list in 2025, unlocking international recognition that included coverage in TIME Magazine and participation at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
At Cannes Lions, Ghanaian chef Abena Amoakoaa Sintim-Aboagye engaged directly with TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew and the Mayor of London — further cementing Africa’s rising influence in global digital culture.
Why This Matters
TikTok’s Discover List 2026 reinforces a clear trend: African creators are no longer emerging voices — they are cultural powerhouses shaping global conversations.
Whether it’s health education, food innovation, design entrepreneurship or fashion storytelling, Sub-Saharan Africa’s digital talent is proving that the next wave of global influence is already here.
