The academy will offer a series of expert-led workshops, both in person and virtually, in Nairobi. These workshops will cover a wide range of topics essential for PR professionals, including effective media interviews, newswire management, storytelling techniques, business journalism, and client-agency relationship management.

What distinguishes the Woodrow PR Academy is its commitment to offering these workshops free of charge, making it the first comprehensive, no-cost communications training program established by an international agency in Africa. Renowned industry experts from global media outlets such as The Economist, Reuters, and CNN will collaborate with local talent from CNBC to deliver insightful sessions.

David Karega, Head of East and Southern Africa at Woodrow, emphasized the pressing need for practical, industry-aligned training, stating, “In Kenya and across Africa, demand for skilled PR practitioners is at an all-time high. Our programs are designed to provide participants with real-world insights and practical tools to thrive in the industry.”

The academy boasts an impressive lineup of speakers for its inaugural year, including Winnie Dunbar, former producer of the Oprah Winfrey Show; Jonathan Rosenthal, Africa Editor at The Economist; and Jackson Biko, renowned author and storytelling expert. Additionally, Jim Donaldson, Woodrow’s non-executive Chair and former CEO of FleishmanHillard, will deliver a special session for C-Suite leaders on team empowerment.

Charlie Tarr, Founder and CEO of Woodrow, underscored the consultancy’s commitment to nurturing talent and driving industry growth, stating, “The Woodrow PR Academy embodies our dedication to fostering the next generation of PR leaders. We firmly believe in investing in the development of young professionals, not just for our own success, but for the prosperity of the entire PR ecosystem in Kenya and beyond.”

The Woodrow PR Academy is set to commence its first cohort in April 2024. Aspiring PR professionals are encouraged to register and learn more about this unique opportunity by visiting the academy’s website.
