Stanbic Bank Kenya has appointed Abraham Ongenge as Acting Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 March 2026, subject to regulatory approval.
The appointment follows the transition of Joshua Oigara into a regional leadership role within the Standard Bank Group.
Ongenge currently serves as Head of Personal and Private Banking at Stanbic Bank Kenya, a role he has held since November 2023. He began his career as a financial accountant and steadily rose through the ranks to become Chief Finance and Value Officer. During his tenure, he has held senior roles in Kenya, South Africa and Uganda, demonstrating experience across diverse banking environments. Ongenge has also served as Finance Director in a local bank, further strengthening his leadership credentials in the financial sector.
Academically, Ongenge holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance from the University of Nairobi, where he graduated with First Class Honours. He is a Certified Public Accountant in Kenya and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya. He also holds the Certified Public Accountant designation in Uganda.
In addition, he has pursued executive training, including a certificate in Digital Strategies for Business from Columbia Business School. He has also completed the Advanced Management Programme jointly offered by Strathmore Business School and IESE Business School in Spain.
