Photos circulating online show a shirtless Joshua, a British national of Nigerian heritage, sitting inside the damaged vehicle surrounded by shattered glass. Police confirmed that Joshua sustained minor injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Police Investigation Into the Crash
Authorities in Ogun State stated that the circumstances surrounding the accident are under investigation. The Federal Road Safety Corps reported that the Lexus SUV carrying Joshua was suspected to be speeding, lost control during an overtaking maneuver, and collided with a stationary truck.
Two Passengers Killed Instantly
Witnesses revealed that Joshua was seated in the rear of the vehicle, while two passengers — one beside the driver and another next to Joshua — died instantly at the scene. Preliminary reports suggest the victims were two male foreign nationals, though their identities have not yet been released.
Eddie Hearn Reacts to Anthony Joshua’s Accident
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, told Daily Mail Sport that Joshua was on a family holiday in Nigeria when the accident happened. Hearn said:
“We are trying to contact Anthony and in the meantime we don’t want to speculate on how he is, but thankfully he appears OK from what I have seen in the images.”

This shocking accident comes just weeks after Joshua’s knockout victory over YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in a Netflix-backed fight in Miami. The former Olympic gold medalist has also been linked to a potential blockbuster bout against fellow Briton and ex-world champion Tyson Fury.
Joshua’s last fight before facing Paul was a knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in September 2024, raising questions about his comeback trajectory in the heavyweight division.
