SGA Security Kenya has taken a pioneering step by incorporating Electric Vehicles (EVs) into its Security Alarm Response fleet. This strategic partnership with Electric Transits Africa (ETA), a leading electric mobility firm in East Africa, signals a growing momentum in the country’s transition toward sustainable transport.
The electric vehicles, which will support SGA’s rapid response services, are not just an operational upgrade. They represent a broader commitment to environmental responsibility. With the integration of these EVs, SGA aims to reduce its carbon emissions while enhancing its service delivery capabilities.
“We are proud to be the first security firm in Kenya to adopt electric vehicles in our fleet operations,” said SGA Kenya Country Manager, Lucas Ndolo. “This collaboration with Electric Transits Africa is more than just a fleet upgrade; it is a meaningful step in our long-term goal of building a more sustainable, eco-conscious future for our business and the communities we serve.”
Electric Transits Africa will provide the vehicles and offer ongoing technical support to ensure their seamless integration. The initiative is being rolled out as a pilot programme, with plans to expand in the future.
“We are very proud to support SGA in its ambition to reduce its climate impact and to position it as a frontrunner in sustainability. The deployment of these electric vehicles is a pilot initiative, with plans to scale in the future as part of a broader strategy to shift towards clean, energy-efficient mobility solutions across all SGA operations,” said Electric Transits Africa Co-Founder and CEO, Wout van Blommestein.
The shift to electric vehicles aligns with SGA Security Group’s adoption of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) principles. It also places the company among the growing number of private sector players driving the national e-mobility transition.
“SGA Security Group has adopted ESG principles as part of its strategy. Therefore, I am very proud of this excellent initiative as it fits into our sustainability goals and contributes to a cleaner, more resilient future,” said SGA Security Group Chairman and CEO, Jules Delahaije.
Diplomatic missions have also praised the collaboration. The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, H.E. Henk Jan Bakker, described it as a “significant step toward a greener future,” while the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium, H.E. Peter Maddens, hailed the move as “a remarkable milestone in the journey toward net-zero carbon emissions.”
Kenya’s electric vehicle sector is experiencing notable growth. According to the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), the number of EVs in Kenya increased by 41.1 per cent in 2024 compared to the previous year. This surge is driven by favourable government policies, tax incentives, and a rising number of private sector investments in e-mobility.
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has welcomed SGA’s initiative as a model for private sector leadership.
“The integration of electric vehicles into SGA Security’s fleet is a powerful demonstration of how private sector leadership can accelerate the shift toward sustainable mobility and a cleaner, healthier future for all,” said UNEP Head of Sustainable Mobility, Mr. Rob de Jong.
Kenya’s transport sector currently accounts for around 25 per cent of national carbon dioxide emissions, with Nairobi’s transport systems contributing nearly 60 per cent of the city’s air pollution. Moves like SGA’s are crucial in reversing this trend, offering a path to cleaner air and a lower-carbon economy.
As Kenya works toward its climate goals, initiatives such as SGA’s EV deployment are not just beneficial—they are essential. They show how innovation, collaboration, and commitment can align business operations with global sustainability imperatives.
