Safaricom (NSE: SCOM), through its Technology For Good initiative, will zero rate the National Council for Persons with Disabilities’ (NCPWD) career portal, which will empower over 5,000 persons with disabilities to access job opportunities and trainings for free on their mobile devices.

The NCPWD career portal offers job seekers with disabilities accessible job advertisements, e-learning modules, and training to enhance their employability, while also facilitating the matching of their talents with top employers.

Zero rating will enable job seekers with disabilities to access the portal without incurring data usage charges, meaning that the data they use does not count towards their data plan or mobile data usage. The portal, built and powered by Fuzu, a leading human resource recruitment specialist firm, is a first in Africa and seeks to help employers easily identify and recruit persons with disabilities into their firms.

“Safaricom is deeply committed to transforming lives and promoting digital inclusion. Through this project, we have made great strides in increasing the prospects of persons with disabilities in their search for economic empowerment through employment, and it is a testament of our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO, Safaricom PLC.

The portal, which has been active since November 2020, currently has over 400 employers and more than 5,000 job candidates. Safaricom has used the portal for its recruitment needs and supported NCPWD by mobilizing more employers to come onboard. Additionally, the TechCo has also been driving a campaign to encourage candidates to register and access the portal for employment opportunities.

“We are grateful for Safaricom’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and breaking down barriers for persons with disabilities. This partnership is a significant milestone in our shared mission to empower PWDs by enhancing access to employment and economic opportunities. Together, we are not only eliminating financial obstacles but also rekindling the aspirations and potential of PWDs across Kenya. Safaricom’s dedication to social impact aligns seamlessly with our vision, and we look forward to a future where PWDs are seamlessly integrated into the workforce, proving that disability is not a barrier to achievement,” said Harun M. Hassan, Executive Director, National Council for Persons with Disabilities.

Candidates with disabilities can register and explore opportunities through the portal at https://ncpwd.fuzu.com while employers can register by contacting ncpwd@fuzu.com.
