Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi has shifted his stance on Gen-Z, now advocating for the voices to be heard.
During a Sunday service, Sudi praised the young people for maintaining peace and abiding by the law during their protests. He commended their determination and stated it was time to listen to them.
He said, “Nataka niambie hawa vijana ninawapongeza sana kwa sababu kwanza juzi walifanya maandamano yao sio wakabila, hawajui wewe ni wa kutoka kona gani,” which translates to, “I want to tell these young people that I appreciate them a lot because first, when they were protesting, they were tribeless, they do not know who is from what corner of the country.”
Sudi mentioned that he had spoken to President William Ruto about the young protesters and urged him to consider their demands. “I spoke to the President and told him we have to listen to these young people. Before we prepare next year’s Finance Bill, we must have a sit down with them,” he said.
He emphasised that no one should condemn these young protesters, as their determination reflects their self-awareness. He advised them to continue obeying and keeping the law during protests.
“I laud the determination and zeal demonstrated by the youthful Gen Z. Going forward, the current leadership must incorporate their concerns in making major decisions. This is truly an awakening moment for our youth in their journey to self-realisation,” Sudi stated.
Despite voting in favour of the Finance Bill 2024, Sudi explained to the congregants that the bill would help young people access education more easily.
However, as he was concluding his speech, the priest interrupted him, asking not to engage in politics during the church service. Sudi responded, “Nimemaliza Father nimemaliza,” indicating he was finished.
