The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) announced today that over 2.4 million Kenyans have successfully filed their 2023 annual tax returns ahead of the June 30, 2024 deadline. This marks a 15% increase compared to the same period in May 2023, indicating steady growth in filing compliance and a positive sign of taxpayers’ willingness to meet their obligations.
The iTax platform has been crucial in streamlining the filing process, resulting in improved efficiency and reduced queuing at KRA Service Centres.
KRA appreciates all taxpayers who have filed their 2023 annual tax returns and urges everyone to continue filing early to avoid the last-minute rush.
Additionally, the Tax Amnesty Programme has benefited over 640,000 taxpayers as of May 6, 2024. The waiver of penalties and interest has amounted to Ksh 247.461 billion, providing significant relief. To date, taxpayers have paid overdue principal taxes totalling Ksh 22.69 billion, with over Ksh 29 billion self-declared as unpaid taxes.
