Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has introduced an API platform, ‘GAVA Connect,’ aiming to empower Kenyan developers to create digital solutions that simplify access to tax services. Launched at State House in Nairobi, this platform was a central highlight of KRA’s Ninth Corporate Plan unveiling, with President Dr. William Ruto praising the KRA’s commitment to digital transformation.

‘GAVA Connect’ enables software systems to communicate seamlessly, giving developers access to valuable tax data to create tools that enhance taxpayer convenience and support KRA’s transparency goals. President Ruto noted that the integration of AI and machine learning with the API could elevate efficiency, detect tax evasion, and further streamline tax administration.

KRA’s five-year plan, themed “Unlock and Tap the Full Revenue Potential through Technology Transformation,” outlines strategic goals to modernise Kenya’s tax system. The plan includes goals for revenue growth, digitalisation, and customer satisfaction, positioning KRA for a future-ready tax model.

Commissioner General Humphrey Wattanga affirmed that the API aligns with KRA’s vision of Tax Administration 3.0, focusing on simplifying tax compliance and fostering a taxpayer-friendly environment. KRA Chairman Anthony Mwaura added that by extending services across all 47 counties, KRA is making tax access more inclusive and convenient.

‘GAVA Connect’ represents a step forward in Kenya’s tax administration, creating a platform where local developers can build transformative solutions that drive national progress.
