Safaricom has increased the free transaction limit for Pochi La Biashara from KSh100 to KSh200 as part of its new Pata More Popote Ulipo na Safaricom campaign.

The campaign is not a new product but a customer value proposition aimed at giving customers additional benefits from the products and services they already use.

Under the campaign, fees charged on Pochi La Biashara transactions above KSh200 will be capped at KSh50 for 90 days, until October 31, 2026.

The changes form part of Safaricom’s plan to develop Pochi La Biashara into a one-stop business wallet for small traders. The service enables merchants to receive payments, separate business and personal funds, track sales and manage cash flow.

Eligible merchants can also access business credit through Taasi Pochi, save and invest through Ziidi Pochi and protect their income using Tuunza Mapato insurance.

Other benefits include access to business voice and data bundles through Ofa ya Pochi, starting from KSh10. Merchants can also sell airtime and earn a commission of up to five per cent.

Safaricom has also increased the Lipa na M-PESA Buy Goods Kadogo threshold from KSh200 to KSh500. The adjustment is intended to help small businesses retain more of their earnings as more customers adopt digital payments.

Businesses using an M-PESA Business Till will also receive a 50 per cent reduction in transaction costs when transferring money from the till to a PayBill number, customer or another till.

The campaign further promotes Scan to Pay and Tap to Pay services, which allow customers to make payments at participating merchant outlets by scanning a QR code or tapping their phones.

The two payment options are expected to reduce friction at checkout while providing businesses with faster and more convenient ways to receive digital payments.

Through the Pata More campaign, Safaricom is positioning its existing mobile money services as broader business tools that can help small traders manage their finances, access credit and grow their enterprises.
