KRA Customs Officers from Malaba One Stop Border Post (OSBP) intercepted a significant drug shipment and smuggled ethanol in two separate operations.
In a media statement, KRA disclosed that its officers discovered a Toyota Corolla parked at Koteko, about 10 km from the KRA office.
“As officers approached, the vehicle sped off, leading to a minor collision with a KRA Toyota Hilux. The driver of the Toyota Corolla fled the scene on foot”, said KRA.
Subsequent investigation revealed two bags containing 520 rolls of dry plant material, with an estimated street value of Ksh. 520,000 were found in the car.
The case is currently under investigation by the Anti-Narcotics Units in Malaba.
In a separate operation, KRA Customs and Border Control Team from Lwakhakha station, acting on intelligence, intercepted 308 Jerricans (20 litres each) containing suspected ethanol. The goods were being transported in an Isuzu FRR. The items have been deposited at Malaba OSBP and will undergo further action under the Customs Law.
