The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), has expressed deep and sincere gratitude to all those who extended various forms of support to ensure the successful evacuation of Ghanaian nationals affected by xenophobic attacks in the Republic of South Africa.
Welcoming the final batch of forty-one (41) evacuees at the Accra International Airport on Friday, 4th September, 2026, the Minister expressed gratitude to his staff, both at base and at the Ghana High Commission in Pretoria, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Ghana Red Cross Society, Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Ghana Health Service, Port Health Authority, and Ghana Armed Forces
He expressed special appreciation to the Church of Pentecost in South Africa, for providing shelter and other essential support to all Ghanaians in South Africa who were awaiting evacuation. He also thanked Airtel Tigo for their support in providing free sim cards with token call credits to all the nearly 1,900 evacuees.
The Government of Ghana on Friday, 4th September, 2026 concluded the evacuation of Ghanaian nationals affected by xenophobic attacks in South Africa, with the arrival of the final batch of forty-one (41) evacuees to Ghana.
