The Government has intensified rescue and humanitarian efforts in Elgeyo Marakwet County following the devastating landslides that have claimed several lives and displaced many families.

In a joint media briefing held at the Eldoret Airstrip, Principal Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning, Dr Chris Kiptoo, conveyed the Government’s condolences to the bereaved families and wished a quick recovery to those receiving treatment in various hospitals.

Dr Kiptoo expressed gratitude to Government agencies, humanitarian organisations, and non-state actors who are working tirelessly to support affected communities. “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who have come forward to assist during this difficult time,” he said.

He was joined by Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Kipchumba Murkomen, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service and Special Programmes, Geoffrey Ruku, Principal Secretary for Special Programmes, Ismael Madey, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, Dr Susan Koech, as well as Governors Wisley Rotich (Elgeyo Marakwet), Stephen Sang (Nandi), and Jonathan Bii (Uasin Gishu). Also present were Members of Parliament Kangogo Bowen (Marakwet East) and Adams Kipsanai (Keiyo North), and Government Spokesperson Dr Isaac Mwaura.

The leaders reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ensuring coordinated rescue operations, continued humanitarian assistance, and long-term recovery support for the affected families.

Dr Kiptoo emphasised that the Government will continue to work closely with county administrations and development partners to ensure that those displaced receive adequate shelter, food, and medical support, and that measures are put in place to prevent future tragedies.

“The unity of purpose we are witnessing today demonstrates our collective resolve to stand with the people of Elgeyo Marakwet,” he added.
